Americorps VISTA
VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) members commit to serve full-time for a year at a nonprofit organization or local government agency, working to fight illiteracy, improve health services, create businesses, strengthen community groups, and much more. Anna Lenhart
Anna Lenhart is the systems manager and webmaster for Shakti Rising’s business office. She has completed 3 years at Carnegie Mellon University studying Civil/Environmental Engineering and Engineering Public Policy. Anna’s interest is in sustainable development; she has volunteered in Uganda, studied in Brazil and submitted research for bio-fuels in Tanzania. At Carnegie Mellon she competed on the varsity cross country and track teams. Since residing in San Diego she has begun studying Spanish and learning to surf.
Nicole Ryan
Nicole Ryan works in the transformation through service program as the Recruitment & Placement coordinator. Nicole is originally from Boston, and in 2007 graduated from the University of Hawaii. She remained in Hawaii thereafter to work at a family law firm. Also, in Hawaii she worked for the Vice President of the state senate. Nicole loves traveling, surfing, hip hop dancing and going to rock concerts.
Whitney Moret
Whitney Moret is the Onsite Services Coordinator in Shakti’s Education and Community Wellness Program. In 2009, Whitney graduated from UC Berkeley with a major in sociology and a minor in Global Poverty and Practice. At Berkeley, Whitney developed a passion for international social justice and had the opportunity to work with two NGOs in Nicaragua promoting governmental transparency and youth development. Interested in promoting women’s empowerment through social entrepreneurship, Whitney hopes to use her experience at Shakti to build partnerships between women in developed and developing countries. Whitney is a writer, listens to rock n roll, and can run for long distances.
