This is an empowerment model of education, teaching the skills and information necessary to create change not only in individual lives but also in our communities.



Knowledge is a powerful too l- one which, when applied, can change the very essence of our lives. The Shakti Rising Educational Program is founded on the philosophy that education expands opportunities. Individuals are empowered when they have the skills and information necessary to actively create change in their own lives and also in their families and communities. Our primary goal is to provoke people to engage: students with the curriculum, teachers with the students, the greater community with the young women in recovery at Shakti Rising, each of us with each other and with our society. Each woman who comes to Shakti to takes a step closer to discovering her true Self and the gifts she has to share with the world.

Women who are open and willing to be active participants in their own education are certain to rediscover their passions and reclaim self-confidence. Our hope is that this growth sparks a desire and commitment to get involved and create positive social change. In this way, the exchange of wisdom is a sacred and empowering act. What makes our educational program different?

• Our classes are highly interactive, taught in a way that involves all the senses.
• Our instructors might, for example, incorporate movement, story, mythology, folklore, scientific theories, and various hands-on activities in their teaching methods. This direct experience of new information allows participants to get a solid grasp of what they are learning in a supportive environment, so that when they leave Shakti Rising they have learned something that they can immediately integrate into their lives.
• Our approach to education is therapeutic (meaning connecting the knowledge to your personal process) and incorporates several alternative teaching modalities.
• The learning environment is a comfortable home setting which assists in eliminating the hierarchical teaching and learning style present in many schools today.
• In our classes participation and discussion is greatly encouraged. This allows participants to open up to each other; sharing and teaching from their own life experiences.
• Our instructors are varied in background and experience and include healers, professional educators, business people and youth.
• The individuals attending our classes vary in age and background, which creates a diverse learning community
