"I could give you no advice but this: to go into yourself and to explore the depths where your life wells forth."
~Rainer Maria Rilke - Letters to a Young Poet
We believe that transformational healing is no less than the recovery of the whole essential Self within each woman. This means we address and support participants to uncover the complex intertwining of multiple core issues, such as:
Addiction – drugs, alcohol, relationships
Abuse – sexual abuse, rape, family and dating violence
Codependency – early childhood issues, adult children of alcoholics
Intimacy – with family, peers, women, & self
Negative Self Image – body image issues, eating disorders, feeling “not good enough”
The Shakti Rising Apprenticeship provides women the opportunity to learn the art of living healthy, meaningful and productive lives. This empowerment- based holistic program of transformation enables apprentices to develop a concrete set of skills to sustain their recovery, create community networks, and succeed on their own life path. At Shakti, the apprenticeship is a healing journey of uncovering core issues, rediscovering authentic Self and reclaiming personal power.
Apprentices work with staff to develop their recovery goals and plans, including their graduation project. Services are combined and sometimes changed during the course of the apprenticeship to suit each woman’s individual needs.
The Intensive Apprenticeship is offered both live-in and live-out. This is a long-term, comprehensive program that has multiple graduation requirements, including completion of the foundations curriculum which includes that is approximately 500 hours of health care, life skills, recovery and leadership coursework.
Informal Apprentices participate in nonresidential services as space is available, and as is appropriate to their life circumstances.
There is an Advanced Apprenticeship for graduates from the Intensive Apprenticeship, or for other individuals who have completed personal growth work comparable to the Intensive Apprenticeship.
We too, may sacrifice a drop of the past, turn to the future, unfold our wings and say, I am.
