Hold'Em Fundraiser

The Lucky Ladies of SD are hosting a Texas Hold'em tournament for Shakti Rising. All proceeds from this tournament will go directly to Shakti. A free lesson will be offered an hour before the game for those new to Hold'em!

When: Sat., Mar. 21, 2009, 4pm - Free lessons; 5pm - Game begins

Spring Awakening Yoga Fundraiser

The Spring Awakening Yoga Fundraiser will be hosted by Gary Alessio (learn more about Gary: www.GetInspiredYoga.com)

Limited Tickets Now Available to Celebrate the Limitless Possibilities of Shakti Rising

Please join us Saturday, March 21st to celebrate and support Shakti Rising, a community of caring that saved my daughter's life. The event will take place at Smith Andersen Editions, a Palo Alto art gallery, from 7 to 9 pm. Tickets are $100 and 100 percent of the proceeds will support the life and soul-saving work of Shakti Rising. A ticket entitles you to one framed celebrity doodle and will help raise $10,000 or more.

In her last year of college, at age 21 my daughter, Allie, a beautiful, intelligent, privileged young woman, became addicted to heroin. She cycled in and out of jail, rehab and living on the street for five years. In 2006 she became an apprentice in a radically different, successful, one-of-a-kind program.

Supported by the incomparable Shakti community, Allie is today a healthy, productive adult who is following her passion and giving back to the community. After nearly three years of intensive work she graduated from Shakti in October 2008. Determined to give back to the program that gave so much to our family, I launched this fundraising event.

Shakti Rising's unique model and 80% success rate have attracted interest across the country, creating opportunities for replication and partnership in other cities and states. Shakti is developing a strategic plan for expansion to satisfy the overwhelming need for gender-specific, trauma-informed services.
