Jordan

In ancient cultures women were revered as the keepers of knowledge.  These wise women were critical to the community’s survival.  They knew everything from family lineage to healing arts, medicine to agriculture.  They also knew that every person is unique and can bring tangible and intangible benefits to a community.  In this respect, these wise women of the past embody the archetype of the teacher.  They knew that every person learns differently, some by example, some by listening, and some by experience. They practiced a holistic method of teaching that empowered each individual to seek knowledge in ways that maximized her or his own natural abilities.

Jordan Stanton has spent most of her adult life studying the traditions of the wise woman, the teacher.  In them she has found her life purpose.  As she so eloquently puts it, “I am inspired to do the work of providing youth with education not traditionally offered in schools to enhance the quality of their lives, the lives of their families and the surrounding community”.

Jordan is a founding member of Shakti Rising.  She met Shannon Thompson in 1998 while attending an herbal certification program through the Sage Mountain School of Herbal Studies.  She was experiencing crisis and disempowerment in her own life and, like most young women, she was unable to find the kind of support needed to truly heal from her history of childhood sexual abuse.  Jordan is passionate about the equestrian arts and draws personal inspiration from dressage as well as other forms of classical riding and horse”woman”ship. Throughout her many years of recovery she has been an inspiration to others through her willingness, open heart and dedication to personal and community growth.

Jordan is currently enrolled in the Waldorf Teacher Training Program through the.  She is planning to continue the pursuit of her BA in Education this fall.

“Educare, the root of the word education means ‘to lead forth the hidden wholeness’, the innate integrity that is in every person. And as such there is a place where ‘to educate’ and ‘to heal’ mean the same thing, Educators are healers.” ~ Rachel Naomi Remen, M.D.
