• 10% will contend with a substance abuse issue
• Between 25-30% have been sexually assaulted

Even if only 1% of these young women (3,000) needed and sought out treatment, San Diego lacks appropriate and effective treatment resources, with approximately 900 beds available for all populations.

The need to provide for women with no place to go for help is tremendous in San Diego. Multiply this number by every urban area in the United States and you will understand why there is the need for Shakti Rising.
